Benduka Arts is my way of bringing all that I do together in a way that uplifts the Spirits of everyone that crosses my path (my own Spirits as well!) . I’m an Artist / Educator and activist in varying degrees that sometimes overlap. My purpose in each of those roles is to honor and enhance the things that connect us all! . As someone I admire once said: “We’re all just walking each other home!” The hope is that these offerings not only bring joy, beauty and good thoughts to you, your home and those passing through it but also contribute in a wider and more practical way. A portion of the proceeds will be directed to places as diverse as micro-loans and start up monies to women in Kenya or India who are small marketplace merchants(ROSCA) or to help encourage people like the kid on my block that loves to draw but whose mom can’t afford art supplies. My feelings are much like those of the novelist John Updike when he said:
“I would rather have as my patron a host of anonymous citizens digging into their own pockets for the price of a book or a magazine than a small body of enlightened and responsible men administering public funds!”.
This site will also be a place of community. Through the blog and newsletter Benduka Arts will be a place to discover literature , music, videos, news, artists and cultures that you might not have been exposed to before. There will be space for readers to contribute as well. Check out the section for designers as well as the images offered as a small token from me to you just for stopping by. And don’t be a stranger! Come back to the sight again and see what’s poppin!
